The idyllic village of Habkern is located in the Bernese Oberland on the border with the Emmental. Due to its remoteness, many traditions could be kept in the daily life of Habkern. Interlaken as a starting point for boat trips on the beautiful Lake Brienz or Lake Thun is only about 15 minutes away by car. Well-known skiing and hiking areas such as Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen can also be easily reached via Interlaken. Also the Jungfraujoch can be visited by train directly from Interlaken.
The cities of Lucerne and Berne can be reached in about an hour by car, but you can also reach both cities comfortably from Interlaken with direct train connections through the beautiful Swiss countryside.
The ?Luegibodenstein? ? 5000 cubic meters of granite, which has been under nature protection for over 100 years, enriches the Habkern area additionally. In 1852 a piece of the granite block was sent to America as a gift from Switzerland for the Washington ? Monument to America.

In summer and autumn you will find recreation on extensive hikes such as the hiking circuit Alp Chromatte or Hellboden with a view over Lake Thun (also winter hiking trail) or an excursion to the Grünenberg pass with a view over the Eriz valley.
Roam through the natural surroundings and pay a visit to the show dairy Alp Heubühlen. Take a bike tour to the Grünenberg pass or swim in the open-air swimming pool of Habkern (operating from June to September).
Not to forget the popular excursion destinations nearby. Visit the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, which is only a 90-minute drive away, or take a trip to the Beatushölen or the impressive Aareschlucht gorge near Meiringen.

Winter
In winter the small skiing area of Habkern-Sattelegg with ski lift awaits you. Well-known skiing areas like Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Kleine Scheidegg or the Brienzer Rothorn can be reached in about 1 hour. Take a snowshoe hike to Lombachalp or enjoy a winter hike to Hellboden with a view over the snowy winter landscape of Lake Thun.
For stormy days, the Werkstube or the local museum of Habkern are ideal.
