Excursion possibilities: Winter: The Maloja-Aela ski area and the small Casaccia ski lift offer fun on skis and snowboards for young and old. More ambitious skiers can reach the top ski areas "Furtschellas - Corvatsch - and Corviglia/St.Moritz in just a few minutes. Kilometres of cross-country ski trails in the vicinity of Maloja are an ideal training ground for the Engadin Ski Marathon (the start is in Maloja, on Lake Sils). If a "sledging adventure" with the little ones is on the programme, the sledge run in Maloja, near the children's ski lift, offers the opportunity. Two ice skating rinks guarantee entertainment on the ice: an artificial ice rink at the sports centre in Vicosoprano, which is open from the end of October to February, or the natural ice rink in Maloja, open from the end of December to mid-February. Winter hikes on foot or with snowshoes are ideal for those who enjoy the winter landscape. A peaceful alternative in the Bergell countryside. Summer: 180 kilometres of hiking trails, paths steeped in history and panoramic views, in lush vegetation including majestic mountains for mountaineers and climbers. Mountain bikers are also well catered for in Bregaglia, with impressive and varied trails offering plenty of exertion for keen athletes. Hikes: With 180 kilometres of hiking trails, hikers will find a large number of different hikes. Many varied paths meander through forests across meadows, pastures and rocks and are accompanied by various SAC huts. This makes it easy to undertake a day or even a two-day hike with an overnight stay in the marvellous natural surroundings. Bregaglia offers a unique and beautiful hike with unforgettable panoramic views for everyone. The most famous of these is the so-called "Panoramica" on the sunny side of the valley, with views of the valley floor and the marvellous peaks of the Sciora Group. A classic hike is the so-called "La Plotta path", from Stampa to Soglio and then on to Savogno (Italy). However, there are many other equally impressive hiking trails. On the "Via Bregaglia", you can walk through the entire valley and discover its history and culture. The "Cià c'am va" trails will whet the appetite of even the youngest hikers. In this Graubünden valley south of the Alps, you can follow in the footsteps of smugglers on the paths that cross the border, or cross ancient passes that were used by the Romans. Bregaglia is rich in history, but also in natural beauty, such as the largest chestnut forest in Europe or the glacier mills, which you can get to know better on educational trails. In addition to sporting activities, there are many sights to visit in Bregaglia. The valley leaves nothing to be desired for culture enthusiasts.
Sporting activities in the area: fishing, mountaineering, climbing, cycling, skiing (alpine), tennis
Village description: Soglio is the "threshold to paradise", enthused the painter Giovanni Segantini. The old, picturesque village lies on a sunny terrace and offers a unique view of the southern Graubünden valley of Bergell with its chestnut forests. The route from the Upper Engadine to the Italian Lago di Como and Ticino leads over the Maloja Pass and through the Bergell (Val Bregalia). The southern Graubünden valley is a wonderful combination of rugged nature and culture steeped in history. Just above the Swiss-Italian border, the small village of Soglio lies on the terraced southern slope of the valley at 1090 metres above sea level. On a sunny terrace with a unique view of the Bondasca group. The largest extensive chestnut forests in Europe stretch out below Soglio. In autumn, the "Cascine" smoke the chestnut huts and the fragrant bluish smoke rises between the thick-trunked trees with their red-golden leaves. Between the closely packed simple farmhouses made of quarry stone walls and the campanile of the village church, Soglio is home to the impressive palazzi of the famous Salis Soglio family, who lived here and became rich in the military service.
