Description of the holiday rental
Ground Floor
On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining, and living areas are arranged in the same room around the centrally located fireplace. When fully occupied, there are two sleeping spaces in the living area. Through a door, you can access the staircase, the wardrobe, and the bathroom with shower, sink, toilet, and washing machine.
Upper Floor
In the attic, there is a bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet. The two bedrooms (1x5, 1x2) have floor-level beds that nest comfortably under the roof slope. The shelves contain books and board games. There is also a TV (without cable connection) with a selection of DVDs.
Basement
You can access the natural cellar through a trapdoor in the floor, where provisions and materials can be well stored. In a wine rack, there is a beautiful selection of wines from all over the world. The wine cellar is open to guests (for a fee).
Additionally, there are three sleds and three pairs of snowshoes in the basement that you may use free of charge in the winter.
Outdoor Area
From the kitchen, you can access the outdoors through a glass door. On the patio, there is a solid garden table that invites you to relax. From there, you can enjoy the best view of the mountain panorama with the Fünffingerstöck. If the sun is too strong, the awning can be extended.
A few steps lead down to the private parking lot. From there, the luggage has a short way. A second parking lot is on the other side of the house, which is also available for free.
The Gabrielenhaus is located in Wassen, in the hamlet of Färnigen on the Susten Pass in the canton of Uri, and offers space for up to 9 people on two floors – our guests always have the entire chalet at their disposal.
At the Gabrielenhaus, simply do nothing and let your soul dangle.
Enjoy life without the internet. Log out and detox from the digital everyday life.
For winter guests, the Meiental transforms into a snow-sure mountain landscape. Snowshoeing and ski tours are offered. Andermatt is also accessible for a day of skiing in 30 minutes by car.
Historical information about the house
The Gabrielenhaus got its name from its former owners. The house has a long history behind it - however, it is not known exactly when it was built. Some estimate the age to be over 400 years. The Heidenmauer in front of the house was allegedly intended as a defensive structure against the heathens coming over the Susten Pass. Between the house and the chapel opposite runs the old packway to Wassen or over the Susten Pass to Innertkirchen.
In 1981, the building was on the verge of total collapse. It still consisted of three outer walls and a rickety roof. Through a complete renovation, the house was restored. The interior was chosen to be practical, cozy, and simple. A large fireplace with circulating air serves as central heating.
Important for the winter stay
The house is bookable in all four seasons. The winters in the Meiental are mostly very severe, and one to two meters of snow are not uncommon. Especially in this season, it is very quiet in the village and the house radiates its own, existential coziness.
Our guests are asked to arrive with a winter-proof car with snow chains.
The access road on the Sustenstrasse can be temporarily closed in case of heavy snowfall. A special SMS service automatically informs our guests about the condition before arrival.
