Description of the holiday rental

Ground floor
The ground floor features the kitchen, dining and living area arranged around a central fireplace. With full occupancy, there are two additional sleeping spaces in the living area. A door leads to the staircase, cloakroom and bathroom with shower, washbasin, toilet and washing machine.

Upper floor
The attic houses an additional bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. The two bedrooms (1x5, 1x2) have floor-level beds nestled comfortably under the sloping roof. Shelves are stocked with books and board games. There is also a TV (without cable connection) with a selection of DVDs.

Cellar
A trapdoor in the floor leads to the natural cellar, where provisions and equipment can be stored. A wine rack holds a fine selection of wines from around the world. The wine cellar is open to guests (for a fee). In addition, the cellar contains three sledges and three pairs of snowshoes that guests may use free of charge in winter.

Outdoor area
A glass door from the kitchen leads outside to a seating area with a solid garden table for relaxed moments. Beyond it, the mountain panorama with the Five Fingers peaks is most impressive. If the sun is too strong, the awning can be extended. A few steps lead down to the house’s own parking space, making luggage transport short and easy. A second parking space is available on the other side of the house, also free of charge.

The Gabrielenhaus is located in Wassen, in the hamlet of Färnigen on the Susten Pass in the canton of Uri, and offers space for up to 9 people across two floors – our guests always have the entire chalet to themselves.

At Gabrielenhaus, simply do nothing and let your soul unwind. Enjoy life without the internet. Log off and detox from the digital everyday.

For winter guests, the Meiental valley transforms into a snow-sure mountain landscape. Snowshoe hikes and ski tours are on offer, and Andermatt is just a 30-minute drive away for a day on the slopes.

Historical background
The Gabrielenhaus takes its name from its former owners. The house has a long history, though its exact age is unknown. Some estimate it to be over 400 years old. The heathen wall in front of the house was supposedly built to protect against invaders crossing the Susten Pass. The old packhorse trail between the house and the chapel opposite once led to Wassen or over the Susten Pass to Innertkirchen.

In 1981, the building was on the brink of collapse, with only three outer walls and a leaky roof remaining. A complete renovation restored it to its former glory. The interior was designed to be practical, cosy and simple, with a large fireplace serving as central heating.

Important information for winter stays
The house is available year-round. Winters in the Meiental are often harsh, with one to two metres of snow not uncommon. At this time of year, the village is very quiet, and the house exudes its own, unique cosiness.

Guests are kindly asked to arrive in a winter-ready vehicle equipped with snow chains.

Access via the Susten road may be temporarily closed during heavy snowfall. A dedicated SMS service automatically informs guests of the road conditions before arrival.
