Alp Beccal

When it is oppressively hot on the Central Plateau, you can enjoy the days and nights in the pleasant coolness of the Bernina Pass at an altitude of almost 2000 metres. Those looking for a contrast to everyday life will be happy: Instead of electricity there are candles, instead of TV there is a sun terrace with a mountain view, instead of business there is jass and plenty of sleep. If you want to be active, you will find plenty of opportunities for mountaineering, biking, hiking or simply walking in Poschiavo and Engadin. Culinary specialities from Poschiavo, Engadine patisseries or a good meal in nearby Valtellina are on offer. The Livigno Valley, known for its duty-free shopping, is just over half an hour's drive away. The Rhaetian Railway invites you to take a spectacular journey over the Bernina Pass.

As we do not rent our jewel to strangers, we would like to find tenants who can appreciate the simplicity and magic of the house and its surroundings through personal dialogue. It should also be mentioned that the house is occupied by our family during the summer school holidays.

About the house
The house Beccal offers space for 4 to max. 6 people. Cooking is done on the historic wood cooker or with gas. The shower and fridge also run on gas. Built as a summer alp, the house is only inhabited from June to September. Beccal has its own spring with excellent drinking water, but does not have an electricity connection. The 4G mobile phone network is very good. Access up to the house. Poschiavo and Pontresina are 25 minutes away by car, St. Moritz, Livigno or Tirano approx. 40 minutes by car.

Living room (veranda, approx. 12 m2)
Large table for eating and playing, couch at the end of the table. Walls and ceiling panelled in Swiss stone pine. A wide window front provides a view of the meadows and mountains. Veranda can be heated with a gas stove if required.

Kitchen (approx. 15 m2)
It is located in the old centre of the building and is decorated with antique kitchen utensils. The cast-iron wood cooker makes the best rösti, you just have to take a little more time to cook. There are two gas hobs for quick hot dishes. Racks for storing food. Granite pouring stone. The fresh water comes directly from the spring, the hot water from the cooker. The fridge is outside the house.

Bathroom (approx. 16 m2)
Shower cubicle with hot water (instantaneous water heater), WC and washbasin. Cupboards for toys. Space for hiking boots, etc.

Lower bedroom (approx. 18 m2)
This is the former living room. Now a bedroom with two beds where you can hear the fire crackling in the kitchen cooker. Dark wooden floor, wall cupboard and private WC.
Please bring your own bed linen for all bedrooms. They are all single duvets and square pillows.
Parents' bedroom (approx. 18 m2)
Two large beds with solid bedding, view of the mountains, light-coloured wooden floor, wall cupboard. Simply furnished.

Children's bedroom (approx. 10 m2)
Bunk bed for two people. Small, charming children's room, painted pink.

Terrace (approx. 15 m2)
For extensive sunbathing (but beware of the intense high-altitude radiation). Breathtaking view of Piz Teo and the surrounding area. Wooden furniture with cushions, various deckchairs and parasol available.

Around the house
The house stands on a "Bödeli", where you can set up a table tennis table or practise archery, for example. Only the hardy can bathe in the large fountain. The wood for the fire is collected from the barn, and there is only a cart in the old goat shed. If you want to chop your own wood, you can do so in the old cowshed.

Surrounding land
Over 30,000 m2 of meadows with gentians, arnica, bluebells, alpine roses, houseleeks, etc. belong to the house. At dusk, deer come to graze, at night, depending on the season, deer roar and at dawn, foxes can be seen. Down in the stream, trout frolic and around the small lake you will find many large and small frogs. And in late summer, mushroom lovers also get their money's worth.
