Spend your holidays in a farmhouse that is several centuries old, full of charm and located in an unspoilt environment! For stays of 3 nights or more, we give you the very popular Appenzell holiday card, which offers many interesting and free activities.
General description:
The wooden farmhouse with attached barn stands alone and harmoniously in the middle of a plain that lies on a river bend. Despite the quiet location, the nearest railway station is only 650 metres or about a 10-minute walk away. The access road to the house is easily passable all year round without four-wheel drive. The property is under heritage protection because it documents the rare type of simple small farmhouse in a well-preserved manner. The building is considered to be of local historical significance as it is said to be the home of the Appenzell freedom hero Ueli Rothach, who, according to legend, fell at the Battle of Stoss in 1405. The low ceiling height of the parlour and kitchen is typical of this type of Appenzell farmhouse.
Interior:
The house has a spacious entrance with stairs to the cellar, access to the wood room and stairs to the living floor. To the left of the entrance is a small bathroom with shower, WC and washbasin, and from the entrance a short flight of stairs leads up to the actual living area. A parlour (room height 1.85 m) with dining table, tiled stove, lounge chairs and views of the mountains invites you to linger. There is also a TV and games room with a sofa. The modern kitchen (room height 1.85 m), which was completely renovated in 2020, is equipped with an induction hob, extractor fan, oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment and plenty of storage space. It is heated by the tiled stove in the parlour and has additional electric heating if necessary. To get to the upper floor, you have to climb a short but steep wooden staircase (not suitable for people who are not good on their feet / to be used with caution with small children). Here you will find a wide central corridor where clothes and luggage can be stored. One bedroom is south-facing, the other east-facing. In both bedrooms there are two beds with eiderdown duvets, which can be used alone or as a double bed.
Outdoor area:
The garden table, deckchairs, parasol and barbecue can be set up in front of the house, away from the noise and hustle and bustle. The water that gurgles into the well in front of the barn comes from a nearby spring. The neighbouring meadowland is farmed by a farmer, but the attached barn and stable are no longer in use. Behind the house there is a hiking trail that is very popular.
Excursion possibilities:
The excursion possibilities are varied: hiking, mountain hiking and climbing in the Alpstein mountains with or without the use of the mountain railways, delta and paragliding flying and training, cycling, visiting the UNESCO city of St. Gallen, swimming in Lake Constance or in the Appenzeller Badi, wellness or golf and much more.
