Village description: Teufen is one of the most beautiful villages in the green foothills of the Alps. The high trail "Über die Eggen", which can be reached from the village centre in a quarter of an hour, offers a distant view as far as the Black Forest, Urschweiz and Vorarlberg on bright days. The Säntis rises its firn-crowned head above the gentle hills, where the farmers still live in the original Alemannic scattered settlements. Teufen is a paradise for hikers! The village centre around the Protestant church is a particular gem of this stately community of over 6,000 inhabitants. The local Grubenmann family provided eight important master builders. Johann Ulrich Grubenmann, the builder of the pretty village church, enjoyed a worldwide reputation for building covered wooden bridges. The Grubenmann Collection on Zeughausplatz provides an insight into the work of this family of master builders in its museum.
