Whether on the 580km (360 miles) of hiking paths strewn over all the mountains or by mountain bike along 400km (250 miles) of fabulous trails: the Upper Engadin offers a superb network of paths and trails amidst an unspoilt Alpine landscape and the inspiring lake plateau. Three flow trails on the Corviglia guarantee a perfect flow. Equally popular among sports enthusiasts are the Upper Engadin lakes; kiting, sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddling – the possibilities are virtually endless. The expanse of the inspiring high-lying valley can be experienced in a particularly striking way on the two 18-hole golf courses in Samedan and Zuoz. And besides the wide range of sporting options, visitors can take advantage of the first-class cultural activities on offer, such as a visit to a museum or to one of the numerous art galleries in the various villages.  


In winter, the ski areas of Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza and family friendly Zuoz invite ski and snowboard enthusiasts to revel in 350 kilometres (218 miles) of the finest powder snow. Cross-country skiers will find over 220km (137 miles) of perfectly groomed trails in the Upper Engadin and the side valleys. The winter hiking paths and cross-country ski trails on the frozen Upper Engadin lakes are characterised by their light, sunshine and space amidst inspiring Alpine scenery. Those who would like to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the snow-covered forests can explore the side valleys of Val Roseg, Val Fex or Val Bever on 150 kilometres (90 miles) of winter hiking paths. Visitors who prefer to have everything in view, meanwhile, will delight in the breathtaking vistas on the panorama hiking trails high above the lakes on Muottas Muragl.  


Families can bask in the Engadin sun during a ride in a horse-drawn carriage into the Val Roseg or Val Fex, or race down the mountainside into the valley on the winding, 4.2km (2.6 mile) long toboggan run on Muottas Muragl.

Location description: The artistic pass village of Maloja is located at an altitude of 1815 in the sun-drenched Engadine on Lake Sils. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the Engadine is one of the sunniest holiday resorts in Switzerland.
On the border of the primeval Bergell people appreciate the uncomplicated atmosphere, the spirit of famous painters, the nature and culture of a pass landscape. The fascinating play of light and shadow has always attracted various artists.
Giovanni Segantini chose Maloja as his last home and subject for so many of his nature paintings. Giovanni Giacometti, the father of Alberto Giacometti, also worked here. Their spirit still inspires exhibitions, readings and concerts in the Belvedere Tower or the Chiesa Bianca. On the Sentiero Segantini you get to know the village of Maloja better.
The pass village is not only popular with art lovers, but also with active holidaymakers, nature lovers and families. Maloja is a first-class hiking, touring and climbing area. In winter Maloja is the starting point for numerous snowshoe hikes, cross-country ski trails and the traditional Engadin Skimarathon. The ski lift on Piz Aela transports alpine skiers to an altitude of almost 2000m, and the mountain turns into a powder snow paradise for snowboarders as well after snowfalls. Other ski areas are Furtschellas, Corvatsch, Suvretta and St.Moritz.
