Location description: The former fishing village and spa resort is situated on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, west of the town of Locarno, south of Losone, east of Ronco sopra Ascona, Brissago and Centovalli. Ascona is also the lowest-lying village in Switzerland, as the village centre is located directly on the lake. Other districts are San Materno, San Michele, Monte Verità and Moscia. The south-western, flat part of the Maggia delta, known as Saleggi, is also part of the municipal area. To the west, the municipal boundary extends beyond the wooded mountain and viewpoint of Corona dei Pinci, which lies at 1,293 metres above sea level, lake promenade with tourist infrastructure.
