The winter hiking paths and cross-country ski trails on the frozen Upper Engadin lakes are characterised by their light, sunshine and space amidst inspiring Alpine scenery. Those who would like to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the snow-covered forests can explore the side valleys of Val Roseg, Val Fex or Val Bever on 150 kilometres (90 miles) of winter hiking paths. Of late the kite surfers, whose trend sport first made its debut here in 1998, have joined the surfers and sailors on the Lake of Silvaplana. In winter, kite sailing is even practiced on skis or on snowboard on the frozen lake!
