Description of the holiday rental
The central VAULTED HALL, featuring the coats of arms of the Capol family’s relatives among the Graubünden nobility, is the main room, with a dining table for six people by the south-facing window.
The CATHARINA VON CAPOL ROOM in the south-east corner is the most richly decorated room in the house: carved panelling, ceiling, lintel and niche for a water jug, columns with Ionic and Corinthian capitals. And integrated into the lintel is the portrait of Catharina von Capol, whose considerable fortune made the construction of the palazzo possible. A Renaissance tiled stove is no longer in use; the radiators are concealed from view.
A place to relax and read; the table seats six people.
The CONRAD ROOM faces south and has a small balcony. The bedroom with a double bed has a washbasin concealed within a built-in cupboard.
The parlour commemorates the Conrad family of entrepreneurs, who, as the largest employer for a century, provided many residents of Schams with livelihoods and employment, and produced capable mayors and cantonal presidents. One branch of the family moved to Russia and made their fortune as chocolate manufacturers. Murdered by the Communists in 1917, the son who had fled, Moritz, took his revenge by shooting the Russian Soviet delegate in Lausanne in 1923. Acquitted!
The GIARDINO-STUBE, the master bedroom, is situated right next to the bathroom with a view of the garden and its fruit trees. A small balcony faces west. The Renaissance bed comes from Tagstein Castle in Masein.
The BATHROOM, with a separate toilet and separate shower, has additional underfloor heating so that it is pleasantly warm even when walking barefoot.
The VAULTED KITCHEN is equipped with a ceramic hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, extractor fan, Nespresso machine and toaster, as well as crockery for six people. Fondue and raclette sets are provided for cosy evenings.
The STUBE DUC DE ROHAN was fitted out in stages between 1601 and 1612 by Veltlin cabinetmakers. It features the inlaid name and coat of arms of the builder, Hans von Capol, and a lavish Renaissance sideboard. Here there are six very comfortable red leather armchairs for an aperitif or watching television, whilst the historic dining table with eight Louis XIII leather chairs is perfect for a fine meal. By the fireplace hangs the portrait of the namesake Henri II, Duke of Rohan, a Huguenot general and Marshal of France in the service of Richelieu.
The library contains plenty of reading material for friends of Graubünden.
Casa Capol is situated on the southern edge of the village of Andeer and boasts a history stretching back centuries, which you can experience first-hand.
A beautiful 900-square-metre garden, complete with seating and a table tennis table. The garden is fenced and features an electric car charging point by the gate. It enjoys a very peaceful location with views of the Grisons mountains.
